There are several good examples of grassland habitat in Ontario that exist due to the efforts of concerned citizens. The following list contains some of the best examples.

Hamilton Region

  • Ancaster Prairie Rehabilitation, in Town of Ancaster approximately 1.5 km SE of Copetown.
  • Dundas Valley Oak Savannah, Hamilton Conservation Authority, at the western end of the valley 1 km NW of urban area of town
  • Christie Conservation Demonstration Prairie, Christie Conservation Area, on Highway 5, west of Highway 6.

Outside the Hamilton Region

  • Branchton Prairie Remnants (Regional Municipality of Waterloo, 2.5ha south of Cambridge, along Hwy 24 and nearby abandoned CN railway line)

  • Brantford Prairies (Brant County, City of Brantford, at four locations: the Brantford Golf and Country Club Oak Savannah, the Brantford Railway Prairie, The TGC Railway Prairie, and the Brantford Perched Prairie Fen)

  • Dunwich Prairie (Elgin County, Township of Dunwich, 1km west of Dutton)

  • Holland Landing (Regional Municipality of York, on Lake Simcoe)

  • Ojibway Nature Reserve and Prairie Remnants (Essex County, City of Windsor, 320ha)

  • Rice Lake Plains (Cramahe Township, Peterborough County)

  • Walpole Island Indian Reservation Prairie (Lambton County south of Sarnia, 650ha, requires Band Council permission to visit)

  • Pinery Provincial Park (Lambton County)

  • High Park Oak Woodland (Toronto)
