There are many sites to access Lake Ontario; here are some nearby
ones that offer good views of wildlife habitat.
Hamilton
Region
- Northeast
Harbour Shoreline: see waterfowl year-round, accessed via
Eastport Drive underneath the Burlington Skyway (park at the Canada
Centre for Inland Waters).
- Toll
Gate Ponds and Van Wagner's Ponds: at the southeast end of
the Skyway, these near-shore ponds provide resting and nesting
areas for migrating and resident shorebirds. Access is via Eastport
Drive and Van Wagner's Beach Road respectively.
- Woodland
Cemetery: waterfowl and other birds can be seen from this
area which overlooks Hamilton Harbour and Carroll's Bay.
- Valens
Conservation Area, Hamilton Conservation Authority: the Valens
Reservoir is here where you can find migrating shorebirds and
ducks.
- Christie
Lake, Christie Conservation Area: another reservoir with trails
around its margin and managed wildlife areas.
- Binbrook
Reservoir/Lake
Niapenco, Glanbrook: take Hwy 20 from the Q.E.W., turn west at
Kirk Rd., going past the village of Binbrook, and then south on
Harrison Rd. to entrance.

Outside the Hamilton Region
- Mountsberg
Reservoir, Mountsberg Conservation Area (Conservation Halton):
this reservoir was created when Bronte Creek was dammed to prevent
flooding and to regulate stream flow. It is surrounded by marshland
home to many birds and amphibians. From Hwy 6 or Guelph
Line take Campbellville Rd to Milburough Rd and go north 1 km
to entrance.
- Crawford
Lake, Crawford Lake Conservation Area (Conservation Halton):
boardwalks surround this unique meromictic lake, also the site
of a 15th century Iroquoian village. Located at Steeles Ave. and
Guelph Line, 5 km south of Hwy 401.
