It is easy to see rural habitats in the Hamilton area. Drive out of the city on any highway and soon a mosaic of woodlands and farm fields will surround you. Many of these are privately owned so be sure not to trespass on private property.

Hamilton and Surrounding Areas

  • Westfield Heritage Village is a re-creation of a 18th century country village. This museum demonstrates how rural villages used to appear. It is located on Regional Road 552 in Rockton.

  • Niagara Wine Region, the wine-growing area that defines the beginning of the 'rural' landscape in the southeast end of Greater Hamilton. Access is along the Q.E.W. southeast of Hamilton.
