Odonates: Dragonflies and Damselflies

Chalk-Fronted Corporal

by Brenda Van Ryswyk

Here is the Chalk-Fronted Corporal photo I took on the 21st of July, 2004.

It was in the meadow marsh area on the East side of Lake Medad ESA, the side closest to the golf course. We parked at the Hidden Lake Golf Course. And they actually have a trail down to the pump house there and that's the easiest way to the waters edge. It was mixed vegetation but most of it was fairly tall, at least waist height and most was almost at our shoulders. This guy came flying in and landed on Kelly's shoulder as we were standing doing the inventory. Then he hoped off and landed on my hand (not a meter away) so I got some good shots. The day that day was VERY warm and humid, lots of sun and we saw them early afternoon.

(Note that Brenda received special permission to enter the golf course property, to do research for the Halton Natural Areas Inventory.)
